William (Bill) Norris Ruff

Yorktown, Va. – William (Bill) Norris Ruff, 84, passed away on Friday May 26, 2023. Bill was a native of Denton, Texas and graduated from Denton High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy and moved to Yorktown to work at the Naval Weapon Station and retired in 1997 with over 40 years of service. Bill enjoyed golfing and after retiring from NWS worked at Kingsmill Golf and Country club and the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club for many years. He was an active member of the York Kiwanis Club serving as President and Lt Governor.
He was preceded in death by his son William (Tommy) Thomas Ruff his parents James and Ruth Ruff and a brother James Arvil Ruff, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Merle Hornsby Ruff and a daughter, Susan McClure and her husband Jackie a sister Regina Ruff George and a grandson Bailey McClure
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm in Amory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2023 with military honors.
On Sunday, June 11, 2023 join us at the Hornsby House from 2:00 to 5:00 PM to Celebrate the life and Legacy of William “Bill” Ruff.
