Wilfred (Bill) Mayton, Jr.

Wilfred (Bill) Mayton, Jr., passed away on April 27, 2026. He was 90 years young.Or as he liked to say “the oldest Mayton to ever live.” He was born in Farmville, VA to Wilfred M. Mayton Sr. and Zada Woodall Mayton Lovelace.
Bill was a graduate of Virginia Polytech University and Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. After graduation he returned to Virginia with his bride, Kay Behre Connelly Mayton. He joined the Virginia United Methodist Conference and began his 47 year career as a pastor. He served many churches all over the state. When asked which was his favorite appointment, it was always the one he was at. At every appointment he immersed himself in the community. He loved meeting new people and becoming part of their lives. There were no strangers.
Bill loved Barbershop singing. Over the years he was a part of many choruses as singer, director or fan. Bill loved to fish and garden. His favorite accomplishment, by far, was becoming a Connelly. As an only child he had longed for the type of family the Connelly’s are. Loving, kind, honest, hard working and play hard folks. And they treated him as their own. Fishing with Buster in the farm pond was a special time for both. Bill lived a full life filled with love.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Kay, his parents and many dear friends he called brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, Mike, Cheryl and Meleah Mayton, his daughter Kay Behre and Wayne Callis and their family, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be held at Bon Air United Methodist Church, 1645 Buford Rd, Richmond, VA, on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11AM. Internment will be in South Carolina on Monday, May 4, 2026.
