Wayne Lee Crist

Wayne Lee Crist, 82, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Wayne was a native of North Carolina and a Peninsula resident since the age of 18. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 40 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Akers Crist and is survived by daughters Shelby Dillon, Alice Parks, Amy Zieman, Dawn Boetcher, Sara McCarty and two sons Stephen Crist and Adam Crist. As well as 13 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

He will be remembered as a man of strong faith who cared deeply for his family and always wanted to make sure those he loved were taken care of. His love was often quiet, shown more through his actions than his words, but it was always present.

He was respected for his knowledge, his faith, and his ability to persevere through life’s challenges with strength and grace. Those who knew him will also remember his unmistakable chuckle, a sound that could easily bring a smile to those around him.

His life was shaped by faith, family, perseverance, and love, and those are the things he leaves behind in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family will have a private viewing on Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 in Amory Funeral Home. The interment will also be private and held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Va.
