Vernon Lester Green


Vernon Lester Green, Jr., age 64, of Yorktown Va, passed away surrounded by his family on December 29, 2023.
Vernon was born in Smithfield North Carolina in 1959 however was raised in Gloucester, Virginia. Vernon graduated from Gloucester High School in 1977 and then went on to attend Christopher Newport College where he received his BSBA in management and marketing. Vernon was employed by many different companies during his career to include Ferguson Enterprises, UPS, FedEx, CB Fleet, Wilson Trucking and most recently Newport News Shipbuilding – A Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries. During his time with NNS, Vernon was a mentor and friend to many.
During college, Vernon met the love of his life, DeeVee Tracy Green and they were married for 41 years. Together they raised two children, Austin Green and Caitlin Carden who kept them both busy with many sporting and music events.
Vernon was preceded in death by his father Vernon Lester Green, Sr and his mother Virginia Ruth Craswell, both sets of grandparents from Gloucester Virginia as well as aunts and uncles who passed before him. Vernon is survived by the love of his life DeeVee Green, his son Austin Green and his fiancé Tamara Carroll, his daughter Caitlin Carden and her husband Corey Carden as well his grandchildren, Conner (10) and Caroline (5). Vernon was looking forward to meeting his newest granddaughter in March of 2024 to Austin and Tamara.
Vernon was avid golfer who always said that a bad day on the golf course was better than a good day at the office. Vernon loved to support his children and grandchildren in any activities they were participating in and was always there to give a hug and a high five. Vernon loved the beach, Jimmy Buffett and good food. During Vernon’s battle with cancer he never once gave up or showed any weakness. He was brave and faithful until the very end and we know he was welcomed into the gates of heaven by his lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Vernon’s family wants to invite those who loved him to celebrate his life on January 6, 2024 at Zion United Methodist Church at 1 pm. Reception and visitation to follow at the church. Funeral arrangements being handled by Amory Funeral Home.
