Tony G. “Porky” Chavez


Tony G. “Porky” Chavez, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Mary Immaculate Hospital. Tony was a native of New Mexico and former resident of Albuquerque before moving to Yorktown, VA, in December of 2020 to live with his daughter and her family.
He was a former employee of the railroad, an Army veteran, and retired as a general superintendent with Les File Drywall. He loved camping with his family, playing golf with all his buddies, and was a beautiful singer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Theresa, his eldest son Anthony Chavez, Jr., a daughter, Anita Kathy Chavez, and a grandson John Joseph Lerma as well as son-in-law John “Papa John” Lerma. He is survived by his children, Mary Margaret Bailey of Albuquerque, Mary Frances Lerma of Albuquerque, Joseph Elauterio Chavez of San Diego, CA, and Gloria Serafini and Mike Minarik of Yorktown; a brother Ray Chavez and his wife Rachel of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Charles Allen, Michelle Renee, Krystina Ann (Jonathon), Kaitlyn Theresa, Joelle Kendra, Michael Archuleta and Jennifer Anderson; great-grandchildren, Dominic Justiniano, Mario Bailey, Stephen Bailey, Kailene Esperanza and Heaven Leigh great-great-grandchildren, Charlee Renee Bailey, Richelle Rae Bailey, Jaydynn Marie Bailey, Anthony Phillip Jusitniano, Celina Mary-Ann Justiniano, and Giovanni Justiniano.
He leaves behind many friends and loved ones that will cherish the memories they shared.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 4th at 11:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Yorktown, Virginia.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 22 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Friends and family are invited to a rosary at 10 a.m. followed immediately with a mass. Tony will be interned with his late wife, Theresa at Mount Calvary Cemetery at noon. Local arrangements are by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.
