

Timothy Michael Fortune



Timothy Michael Fortune, of Yorktown, Virginia, passed away suddenly at home on September 2, 2026. He was 68 years old. He was a beloved son, brother, father, and papa.
Tim was born to Edward and Sherley in Akron, Ohio. Growing up, he was full of life and always up for an adventure. He attended West Branch High School before joining the United States Navy in November 1975, where he met the love of his life, Deborah Kay Myers. They married on April 2, 1977, in Parris, Ohio. Tim went on to spend 20 years as a Yeoman in the Navy on submarines. During that time, they were stationed in Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, Hawaii, and Washington. While stationed in Hawaii, Tim was able to graduate from Waipahu School for Adults in 1988.
Tim and Debbie were foster parents for 27 years. They were named Foster Parents of the Year in Hampton, VA in 1995. After having Kenny, Mat and Tony they welcomed 8 more children into the Fortune family. Throughout their time as foster parents, over 100 children have received love and care from them.
While his children and grandchildren kept him busy, he also enjoyed golfing. Tim found joy and great peace on the open road riding his motorcycle with friends and family.
On Sunday’s, you could find him cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved being at Heinz Field waving his Terrible Towel. When watching from home, he was surrounded by Harley and all the puppies. Tim and Debbie became Shih Tzu breeders in 2024. He loved caring for the dogs, giving them countless treats and “10 minutes of scratches” every day.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Edward Fortune, JR, his mother, Sherley Oxley, his sisters, Robin Oxley and Kai Fortune, and his brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Donte, and David Fortune. Tim is survived by his wife Deborah, his children, Kenneth, Mathew(Erin), Anthony(Tiffany), Carmen, Elizabeth(CJ), Aleshia(Michael), Joseph(Erin), Saul, Laura, Hailey, and Marie(Wade); grandchildren, Nathaniel, Alexander, Jacob, Christopher, Mason, Destiny, Madison, Justin, Marissa, Renton, Cory, Camden, Casyn, Vanda, AnnaLynne, McKinley, Brayden, Ireland, Jose, Lexi, and Lani; great grandchildren, Kinslee and Austyn; his stepfather, Kenneth, his stepmother, Martha; siblings, Edward(Margie), Cynthia, James(Michelle), Edmond(Julia), Steven (Tawnya), Teresa, Richard, Steven (Angie), Carlisha, Desi, Kayla, Jeni, Donovan, Carter, Cody, Ty’shon and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, September 8th, 2:00pm, at Seaford Christian Church, 1709 Seaford Road, Seaford, VA 23696. Arrangements are being handled by Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, VA. Please contact them if you would like to send flowers in support of the family.
