Terry Samuel Tinney

Terry Samuel Tinney departed this Earth on June 23, 2026, after a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure to be with his lord and savior, Jesus.
Terry was born on June 16, 1957, as the first-born son to Reginald and Beverly Tinney in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had two younger brothers, Timmy and Teddy. Terry met the love of his life, Grace Ann Neading in middle school and they were married for 49 years. They had one daughter, Tiffany Nichole, in 1982. Terry found his lord and savior later in life and from that moment his life was changed, and he was on fire for the lord. Terry had a deep passionate desire to share Jesus and share his message with others as a Deacon of Hornsbyville Baptist Church. Terry was a jack of all trades and was good at it. Terry’s hobbies were drawing and painting. He had an artistic talent that was unbelievable. If you showed him a picture of anything he could draw it or build it. He learned a lot about cars and mechanics working at the bus garage in York County. His favorite job was as the master artis/painter at Busch Gardens where he made and painted the carousel horses and other rides. Terry was the best fiberglass man around York County. He also worked as a carpenter on the boats at Seaford Scallop dock. Terry had a big heart for animals his whole life and never had a fear of animals and would rescue any animal. This love of animals was passed on to his daughter, Tiffany. Terry would help anyone and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Terry loved his church and his church family greatly. Terry was loved by many, and he loved his family and friends fiercely. If you messed with his family or friends, you would see a side of him you never wanted to see. Terry did have a temper at times, which he also passed onto his daughter, Tiffany, and when they argued they were like two rams locking horns because neither one would back down from an argument, but they loved each other just as fiercely. Grace and Terry thanked God for Tiffany being a knowledgeable nurse and being a blessing to them especially as Terry’s health issues progressed in life. As he got older his patience would be tested when attempting to put things together, but he would still do it for anyone and would never take credit for it. Terry was blessed with a second set of parents, Carl and Barbara Carter. Carl taught Terry many things about the lord and life and trained Terry to become a deacon. If Terry loved someone he would tell them and he was not afraid to show affection. He had an infectious laugh, and he loved to talk almost to the point of not letting anyone else get a word in during a conversation. Terry had two neighbors that he watched grow up, Nikko and Tony, and he considered them as his grandsons and baptized them both which gave him immense pride. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and younger brothers. He is survived by his wife Grace Ann, his daughter Tiffany Dwibhashyam, and his son-in-law Ravi Dwibhashyam, whom he loved like a son. Also, his brother-in-law Ronald Brown, his church ma, Barbara Carter, and a host of nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of friends. A viewing will be held on June 29, 2026, at Amory’s Funeral Home at 6pm. The funeral service will be held on June 30, 2026, at Amory’s funeral home at 1pm followed by burial and reception at Hornsbyville Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peninsula Pet Pantry located at 365 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA 23608.
