Summer “Sunny” Andrea Mundell Deming

Summer “Sunny” Andrea Mundell Deming passed away peacefully at home January 27th, 2026.
Sunny was born to Richard D. Mundell and Helen Marie Bennett Mundell on September 10th, 1961, in Hampton, VA. In 1969 she moved to Seaford, VA, where she attended York County Public Schools, graduating from York High School in 1979. Sunny traveled quite a bit in her young adult years, enjoying time in San Diego, California and Connecticut among others. Eventually, she returned to Virginia, settling in Hampton. Sunny was always very creative and artistic, and used these skills in her special events career with Parks & Recreation – both in Newport News & Hampton. She loved the challenge of creating new events and took pride in her contributions to many landmark city projects & events throughout the years, winning many regional awards.
During her retirement, Sunny took pleasure in the simple things – like matching her seasonal pillows on her porch to her flowers; Buying a new color story each year for her Christmas gifts (it was useless to ever try to out-wrap her, hers were always the best), reviving her rusty piano skills by playing some of her favorite songs from old sheet music, and creating fashion shows in Roblox with her granddaughter Eloise. She truly loved her family, and her family loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter Claire Deming, granddaughter Eloise Geary, sisters Shelly Mundell and Shaun Hipps, brother-in-law Robert Hipps, nephews Cameron & Colin Hipps, and Aunts Sandy Miller (Gary) and Carolyn Meade. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on February 13, 2026, at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, VA at 1:30, with a graveside service to follow at Parklawn Cemetery in Hampton, VA. Flowers are welcomed and can be sent to Amory Funeral home at 410 Grafton Dr. Yorktown, VA 23692. .
