

Straughan Franklin Edwards


Straughan Franklin Edwards, 92, died on September 27th, 2026. He was born at Riverview in Fleeton, Virginia and had been a Peninsula resident since 1955. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, Virginia. He retired from NASA in 1989 after 34 years of service.
In his retirement, Mr. Edwards devoted his time to organizations promoting historic Yorktown and supported the arts. He volunteered with the Celebrate Yorktown Committee, The Yorktown Day Association, the Watermen’s Museum, and the Yorktown Preservation Society (formerly, the Yorktown Branch of the APVA). His devotion to his volunteer work was rivaled only by his kindness and good humor. Mr. Edwards loved music and art and was known to leave the radio tuned to classical music. He enjoyed concerts, operas, museums and the theatre.
Mr. Edwards was predeceased by his wife Helen Shaw Edwards and is survived by his daughter, Leslie Anne Edwards; his son, S. Franklin Edwards, Jr.; and his granddaughter, Skyler Shaw Edwards. He will be deeply missed.
