Sterling Wayne McAllister


Sterling Wayne McAllister, 80, passed away peacefully following a steady decline in health on Thursday, November 10, 2022.
He graduated as Dunlap High School’s Salutatorian from Covington, VA. He then left the country life, his beloved “mama” and started his trade at Newport News Apprentice School as a marine pipe engineer and retired as a naval architect/marine engineer in the pipe design department for M. Rosenblatt & Son, Inc.
Sterling was born February 5, 1942, in Allegheny County a son of the late Walter and Minnie Rose McAllister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Brenda McAllister and Carolyn Kirby and son-in-law Bill Fleming. He was a member of Hoke Chapel United Methodist Church in Covington, VA.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Cheryl Champion McAllister of Yorktown, VA; his daughter Lisa Ann McAllister of Yorktown, VA; son and Steven McAllister (April) of Mosley, VA. four grandchildren Christopher Teddy McAllister, Haile McAllister, Penelope McAllister and Oscar McAllister. He is also survived by his sisters Sharon Hayslett (Monty) and Lois Fleming all of Covington; two brothers James McAllister(Linda) of Hopewell, and Edgar McAllister (Sharon) of Sanford, NC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral services will be at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, VA with visitation at 12 noon and service at 1pm. Interment will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
