Stephen “Stevie” Peters
Stephen (Stevie) Peters, who was a Yorktown/Grafton resident since 1960, passed away August 31, 2024.
He was born March 2, 1951, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA to Harlin H. Peters and Margaret Mary Mulcrone Peters. He is survived by his brother, Danny Peters who resides in Gloucester.
Steve graduated from York High School (1969), then attended the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock’s Apprentice School (1969-1973) and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in December 2012. His hobby and passion was restoring antiques automobiles to their original condition. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. He restored a 1916 Chevrolet Four-Ninety 3 door Touring Car, a 1931 Chevrolet Independence AE 2 door Coach and a 1932 Chevrolet Confederate BA Special sedan. Ronnie Smith was his best friend who could frequently be found with him working on antique cars for some 50 years and will be missed as well as Mason Ware, another close friend. He also loved fishing and therefore an Endowment in his name will be established at VIMS to support graduate students and research on the Chesapeake Bay. Additionally, those who were of great support to him and have always been there for him include Barbara & Brad and Kathie & Richard, neighbors extraordinaire! Since May, Steve had been in Riverside Regional Hospital 3 times, where he received outstanding medical care and for which words cannot fully express the appreciation for their professionalism and compassion! In August, his final stay, Kelly Gilbert with Palliative Care was indispensable in providing support and checking on us each day – another professional and compassionate RN that RRMC can be proud to have as a dedicated employee.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Amory Funeral Home on Sept. 10, 2024. Visitation will be at 1pm and a service at 2pm. Attire will be casual.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like, please donate to a charity or cause that you prefer. Interment will be private at Peninsula Memorial Park.
