Sharon Overcash Buffkin

Sharon Overcash Buffkin (December 5,1956-August 9, 2026), known as Sherry or “Sherry B”, of Yorktown, VA, was unexpectedly called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Though her sudden passing has left a deep and painful void in the hearts of her family and all who loved her, we hold tightly to the promises of God and find comfort in knowing that Sherry is now in the presence of Jesus, resting peacefully in His loving arms.

Sherry loved Jesus with all her heart. Her faith was not simply something she believed—it was a personal and genuine relationship with her Savior that shaped who she was and how she loved others. She knew the Lord, trusted Him, and sought to live her life in a way that reflected His love and grace. While her family grieves the loss of her presence here on earth, they find comfort in the assurance that she is home with Jesus, where there is no pain, no sorrow, and no more tears.

Sherry was deeply devoted to her family and treasured the life God gave her. She and her beloved husband, Michael Buffkin, recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary, a beautiful testament to a lifetime of love, commitment, faith, and shared memories. Their 53 years together were a cherished gift, and Sherry’s love for Mike was a meaningful part of her life and legacy.

Sherry was a lifelong resident of Yorktown, VA, and attended Tabb High School, graduating in the second class of 1975. In her early years, she was a competitive roller skater, becoming the Mid-Atlantic Roller Skating Champion in 1967. Mike and Sherry proudly owned and operated Newmarket Automotive in Newport News, VA, for 39 years. They recently retired together, enjoying the last 5 years traveling with their family and volunteering in the local community. She had a deep love for animals, which has been carried on through her family.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Michael Buffkin; her children, daughter Candice Brown and her husband, Jake Brown; daughter Jessi Mallory and her husband, Justin Mallory; and son Marshall Drew Buffkin; her beloved granddaughter, Charleston Jarden, and her future granddaughter arriving in December. Her family was among her greatest joys, and the love she poured into each of them will continue to live on through the generations.

To know Sherry was to know someone who loved deeply, cared sincerely, and treasured the people God placed in her life. Her smile, her laughter, her compassion, her faith, and the love she so freely gave will remain forever in the hearts of those blessed to have known her.

Although we would have wanted more time with our wife, mom, and grammy, we are grateful for the years, memories, laughter, and love God gave us through her. We will miss her more than words can express, but we will carry her love and her faith with us until the day we are reunited with her in Heaven. Until then, we rest in the promise that she is safe in the presence of Jesus, her Savior, whom she loved so dearly.

The family will be having a private celebration to honor Sherry’s life and legacy. In lieu of gifts, to continue Sherry’s legacy and love of animals, we ask that you donate blankets, dog toys, or other essential needs to your local animal shelter in her name. If you are local to the Peninsula, we ask that you donate those items to the Animal Aid Society in Hampton, VA.
