Sharon Cady Gibson

Poquoson, Va. – Sharon Cady Gibson, 57, passed away peacefully at her home on February 9, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Sharon was born on March 19, 1963 in Pomona, California and grew up in Covina, California. She graduated from California State Polytechnic University, San Lois Obispo and went on to obtain a master’s degree at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York. She then moved to Newport News, Virginia and worked for 25 years with SAIC and SSAI as an imaging scientist in Hampton, Virginia. Outside of her work she had a profound love for tennis as she played in high school and continued on until her health declined in the past year. Most of her tennis time was spent involved in the adult leagues at The Centre Court Indoor Tennis Club, but nothing lit her face up more than seeing her own children play. She even created her own business called “Earthbuds” which displayed her passion for nature and gardening. She enjoyed planning trips and vacations with her last one being a trip with her family to St. Lucia and climbing the Gros Piton. Her gentle touch, empathetic heart, and adventurous spirit will be missed dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Alonzo Edward Cady Jr. and her brother, Bruce Edward Cady. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Michael Alan Gibson, her three children, Nathan Alan Gibson (23), Athena Rose Gibson (21), Luke Anthony Gibson(16) and her mother, Carolyn Mair Cady. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 15 2021 from 7:00 to 8:00PM in Amory Funeral Home, Yorktown, VA. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
