Sarah Lamb Green

Aloha!
Our Hula Girl at Heart, Sarah Georgina Marie Furtado Lamb Green passed peacefully, Thursday January 2, 2025 at home surrounded by her family.
Sarah was born in Honolulu, Hawaii October 11, 1936 one of 10 children. Her mother and four siblings arrived on the mainland upon the SS Lurline in 1950. After 74 years she still called Hawaii home and loved to share stories of her Ohana. Many involved her diving off of cliffs into those tranquil blue waters and of course learning to do the hula. Her love of all things of beauty came from this rich heritage that was deep in her soul. She embodied the heart of Hawaiian Aloha and Southern Hospitality combined. Anyone who visited her knew this because you NEVER left empty handed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Wilhelmina Furtado and her stepfather Virgil Lamb. Six siblings Patricia Furtado, Edmund Furtado, Jackie Carvalho, Francis “Buddy” Furtado, Baron Furtado, Damien Lamb and grandson Davis Green. Surviving siblings Louis “Butch” Furtado, Therese “Tootsie” and John Gravely, Angeline “Angie” Stephens and brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Barbara Green and sister-in-law Judy Keeter. Survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved dearly and who demonstrated so much love to her over the years.
Sarah was proceeded in death by her life soulmate Tommy (Thomas Calvin Green, Jr.) One would always say he fell in love with that “island girl” as she wooed and impressed him with her infamous left hook shot on the basketball court. Over the years they shared a love for sports, country music and companionship.
They were true partners in their shared 46 years of marriage. Owning and operating TC Green Eggs, multi-generational egg business. Sarah went to Cosmetology school and ran a hairdressing shop out of the home for many years. Ensuring that she and her girls always had the most current hairstyles. They instilled a strong work ethic in their children and grandchildren. Sarah was known for encouraging her children and grandchildren to get their work done, she never called them chores, so they could enjoy the weekends, Thursday cleaning days were pretty significant, and every grandchild could tell you a story about the wonderful pool days, but not before their harvesting in the garden was complete.
Sarah is survived by four children and their spouses. Fran & Bobby Carroll, Susan & Elliott Duty, Tammy &Jim Holloway and Doug & Wendy Green. Eight grandchildren, Jamie & Matthew, Joey and Amy, Josh & Aggie, Ashley & Adam, Jake & Sarah, Justin & Kim, Bailey, and Baker. Sixteen great-grandchildren to include: Leslie, Maddy, Ally, Noah, Beau, Taylor, Alivia, Hannah, Madyson, Emma, Lucian, Calvin, Asher, Jones, Nell and the most recent Wren.
As a mother of four, Nana of nine, and Grand-Nana of 16, Sarah was the heart of the Green family, Our matriarch. She taught and shared that love generously and unconditionally. She leaves imprinted in our hearts many memories of family gatherings, sporting events and family traditions. She had a kind spirit and loved life, always displayed a positive, glass always half full, spirit. She encouraged each of us to thrive at whatever we put our minds to and was there to support us on that journey.
The aromas from Nana’s kitchen can make you salivate just hearing about what she was cooking. She was the meaning of Ohana, her heart and home was always open. She was known for her Christmas Eve celebrations, to include this year as the family gathered around her, watching her do one last hula. Moma had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important date in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and siblings lives, never failing to send a card or make a call.
Some things that come to mind when thinking of Sarah were the Three B’s. Basketball, Bowling and Bingo! She had a love for all three at different stages of her life. She started her time on the court at St. Vincent’s High School and became a member of York High School’s 1st graduating class. She received the women’s basketball player MVP her senior year and coached and taught after graduation at York High School. In her adult life she was an accomplished bowler, a member of the Virginia Queens Bowling Association, Secretary of many bowling leagues over the years and a youth bowling coach. Again that “lefty” in action on the lanes was a force to be reckoned with. Moma kept her mind and spirt young through Bingo. If you ever attended with her you needed to be aware this was no joke, you must stay focused and not talk during the game! She could manage 12 sheets at a time to your one or two!
As most who knew Sarah would say she had a love of the garden. To say she had a green thumb is an understatement! She was knowledgeable of all plants and could teach anyone what would grow best in different conditions. I think just about everyone has a special plant or gardening tip that Moma taught them. We know with confidence that Heavens gardens will never look better! God has gained a hard-working woman who is eager to spread love and positivity.
In the words of her native tongue “a hui hou” : until we meet again.
A service to remember Sarah will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 11:00 am in the Chapel LibertyLive at 1021 Big Bethel Road Hampton, VA. The family invites friend and family to enjoy fellowship with them following the service.
The family would like to give thanks to the angels here on earth through Enhabit Hospice Care and Care Advantage Care Partners for their loving hands and hearts as they provided mom and our family with the most supportive care, they were our Ohana. Specifically, to the most tender care from Tammy, Heather and Lakeisha, your love and tenderness were felt by Moma and us, we will be forever grateful.
If you are so led to make a donation or share an act of kindness, we ask that you choose something special to your heart or that you know might be dear to Sarah and pay it forward.
