Sara Holmes Mills
Sara Holmes Mills, a longtime resident of Seaford and Newport News, Virginia passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Riverside Hospital on October 2, 2022.
Sara was born to John and Sarah Holmes on December 9, 1947 in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Naval Hospital. She was a graduate of Ferguson High School and Elkhart Institute of Technology, in Indiana. She enjoyed a lifetime of love and adventure with her soulmate, Monty Mills for 45 years.
Sara is survived by her husband, Monty Mills, her six siblings, Kathy and Charles Cayce of Atlanta, Georgia; John R. Holmes, II and Monica Holmes of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Theresa Holmes and Edd Key of Seattle, Washington; Janet and Bill Haynes of Abingdon, Virginia; Frank and Beverly Holmes of Williamsburg, Virginia; and Liz and Gunnar Bergstrom of Ashburn, Virginia. Sara’s extended family includes, Richard and Becky White of Seaford, Virginia; Reginald M. Mills, III and Vickie Mills of Lumberton, Texas; Sarah Anne Mills of Seaford, Virginia; and Melissa and Jimmy Wade of Hayes, Virginia; and their large, extended family members of nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren across the country, each cherished immensely by Sara.
Sara had a long career locally as a Dental Assistant/Hygienist and medical Office Manager.
Sara loved playing tennis with friends at Back Creek Park and skiing with the wonderful Peninsula Ski Club members. She was a faithful and enthusiastic member of Zion United Methodist Church in Seaford; actively serving her church community alongside Monty. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family. Her days were happily shared with Monty traveling on vacations with family and friends, and also attending sporting events, concerts and activities for siblings, cousins, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her Busch Garden’s Rollercoaster Challenge was legendary among the children in her extended family! Sara lived a testimony of love and faithfulness caring for her mother to the age of 99 ½ years, through this past summer. Sara’s loving and enduring devotion to her friends, family and community is a tremendous loss.
Sara’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, October 8th, at Zion United Methodist Church, 2109 Seaford Road, Seaford, Virginia. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm and the service will start at 3:00 pm.
