Rose Marie DeAlba Hopkins


Seaford, Va. – Rose Marie DeAlba Hopkins, 97, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Rose Marie was a native of Seaford and the daughter of the late Wesley Mills DeAlba and the late Harry Christopher DeAlba. Rose had one sister, Virginia DeAlba Pompei, who preceded her in death, and one brother, Harry Christopher DeAlba Jr., who died in childbirth. She graduated from Poquoson High School in 1945. She spent her early career as an accountant with the Office of the Comptroller at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. After staying home for 25 years to raise her four children, she returned to the Office of the Comptroller and retired in 1989. She was a lifelong active member of Zion United Methodist Church, serving on many committees, leading the children’s choir and singing in the adult choir. Rose Marie loved to travel and enjoyed extensive trips across the continental US, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. Some of her favorite international trips included Italy, Germany and Israel.
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 75 years, Gerald Ray Hopkins and her grandson, Ronald Wayne (“RJ”) Collier, Jr. She is survived by her children, Chris Hopkins (Anna May) of Seaford, Kevin Hopkins (Sarah) of Breckenridge, Colorado, Joyce Wilburn (Jack) of Seaford and Anne Conner (Darron) of Williamsburg. She adored her eight grandchildren Christine DeAlba (Dee Dee) Matthews, Gerald A. (Gerry) Hopkins, Amber Wilburn Giampa, Jaclyn Wilburn Ramsey, Wesley Marie Collier, Anne Mills Conner and Davis Scott Conner. She was thrilled when she was blessed with nine great-grandchildren Ashton, Olivia, Miles, Easton, Cole, Palmer, Joelle, Ava and Emmerson. She also had many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Ree”.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. David Magruder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery followed by a reception in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 2109 Seaford Road, Seaford, Va, 23696. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Virginia.
