“SMsgt (retired) Ronald Joel Barb, 76, of Yorktown, died Friday, May 21, 2021 at his home.
He is survived by his wife Judy; children Tammy MacKay and her husband Thomas, Joel Barb, Arianna Barb, and Elijah Barb; and 4 grandchildren, Taylor MacKay, Taryn MacKay, Jacob Barb, and Jabin Barb. He was predeceased by his parents Effie Mildred Barb and Moses Willard Barb and siblings Blanford, Doris, John, and Donald of Bayse, Virginia. He is further survived by one sister, Mary (Snooks) Spiggle,her children Pam, Allen, John Lee, and Joseph and also by his brother John Adam Barb’s widow Edith Barb and their children Diane, Markus, and Melinda their spouses and great nephews and nieces.
Ron was born in 1945 in Bayse, Virginia. He completed elementary school at Mount Herman, a 1 room schoolhouse, and spent his 7th grade year at Tripplet High School, and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, where he drove a school bus during his last two years. Ron joined the U. S. Air Force at the age of 18, and had an outstanding career. He retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after serving in the Security Intelligence Service in Alaska, Italy, Thailand, Crete, and Texas. He then served as Non-commissioned Officer In Charge of contracting at Langley Air Force Base, from which he retired after 21 years. Ron then went to work for Vepco, now Dominion Virginia Power, as a contracting agent, from which he retired after 15 years. Later, after adopting 2 children, he returned to work in contracting for INNS, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman. After 5 years, he retired for the final time to take care of his family, children, grandchildren, and his garden.
A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 5, at 11am at at Solomon’s Lutheran in Quicksburg, VA
