Roland H. Harris, Jr.


Seaford, Va. – Roland H. Harris, Jr. died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the age of 71.
Born on October 2, 1950 to the late Roland H. Harris, Sr. and Marion S. Harris, Roland was a native of Newport News and a lifelong resident of Seaford. He graduated from York High School in 1968 then joined the U.S. Navy for a short time and fought in the Vietnam War. Roland then worked for and retired from Verizon after 33 years of service. After retirement he went to work at the Norfolk Naval Base until 2021.
Roland was a member of Colonial Flat Iron Hunt Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but most important to him was his three daughters and grandchildren. Roland was a genuine, hardworking, loyal man. Through his many years of being ill, Roland never lost his faith and continued to live life to his fullest, never letting his health slow him down.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Deborah F. Harris and his daughters, Jennifer Wood of Grafton, Melissa Sanders (James) of Poquoson and Elizabeth Williams (Chad) of Dandy, a brother Timmy Harris of New Kent and five grandchildren. Katelyn and Roland Wells, Bryce Wood, Sadie and River Williams.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Mary Immaculate Hospital for their ongoing care for not only Roland but words of support and encouragement to the family and Dr. Jeffery Harris of TPMG.
A visitation will be held at Zion United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 14, at 1:00 p.m., and is open to the public. The funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m.
