Rodney Wayne “Ronnie” Batts


Rodney Wayne Batts, known as “Ronnie” was born on January 3, 1955, and unexpectedly passed away in his home on February 19, 2024.
He leaves behind a legacy of excellence as a reputable transmission builder and business owner, specializing in automatic and manual transmissions, for almost five decades.
Ronnie’s passion for craftsmanship extended beyond his profession; he found joy in restoring classic cars and trucks and tending to his beloved York County home. His spirit was as vibrant as his storytelling, leaving lasting impressions on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ronnie had a passion for the Tidewater area and the Chesapeake Bay, finding comfort and joy in its natural beauty.
He attended Newport News High School and graduated from Warwick High School. Ronnie’s time in the Newport News high school band sparked his lifelong love for music and camaraderie.
Ronnie will be dearly missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his former wife Sandy; son RJ Batts and fiancé Hannah; daughter Kara Turk; daughter Amber Hardesty and husband Sean; and grandchildren Mariah, Jenna, Ivy, Casey, Emma, Haley, and Sadie, all of Yorktown, VA. He is also survived by his sister Vicki Bukovitz and husband Jim; nephew Brian Bukovitz; niece Laura Paschall and husband David, and their children, all of Chattanooga Tennessee.
A celebration of life service will be held at Amory Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, 2024. 1:00 PM at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the service.
