

Robert (Bob) Owens
Robert (Bob) Edward Owens, 91 years old, passed away on March 1st 2025. Bob was born to Emma and William Owens on May 25th, 1933 in Yorktown (Dandy), Virginia.
In 1968, he married his true love, Betty. Bob joined USMC in 1953. After serving 4 years started working for AT&T and retired after 33 years as a Marketing Manager. Bob was an adventurous person while working for the telephone company. He and a co-owner started a charter aircraft business named Executive Air, which gave him the opportunity to get his pilot’s license. They had two twin-engine aircraft and one single engine plane they used to fulfill several contracts. Bob and Betty had a house in Kill Devil Hills for 25 years and enjoyed spending time with their daughters and grandchildren, on the beach. One of his favorite things was boating, crabbing and fishing. He taught both of his daughter how to water ski. He and his son-in-laws and others would go to the Gulf Stream and catch Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin. After retiring from AT&T Bob owned Enterprise Ford Tractor Inc. for 12 years before selling it. Bob and Betty enjoyed business trips to Rome, Madrid, Puerto Rico, San Francisco, Vegas, London, and New Orleans. Bob and Betty attended Chestnut Memorial United Church for over 45 years. He was Lay Leader for a while. He was most proud of having crosses in front of the church built and erected. Bob was proud of his 2 daughters and his 4 grandchildren. In 2024, he became a great grandfather. He loved spending time with them, either at cookouts, boating, being at the beach or just being together as a family.
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma and his brother, Harold Owens and sister, Cora Thomas and daughter Stephanie Strack. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Betty Owens, daughter Jennifer Jenkins, her husband Dale and 2 grandchildren, Cameron and Grace, Son-in law Bruce Strack and 2 grandchildren Hunter and Morgan and great-grandchild, Avery and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will be held at 11am on Saturday March 8th, 2025 at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church followed by a luncheon, 1024 Harpersville Rd. Newport News, VA 23601.
