Norman Dean Lovett


Newport News, Va. – Norman Dean Lovett, 86, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Newport News, VA, on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father. He is reunited with his wife of 62 years, Norma Fay Yount Lovett.
Norman was born on June 22, 1935, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was the only child of Tina and Norman E. Lovett. He is survived by his daughters Lisa Lovett Steed (Cecil) and Jennifer Lovett Shinn (David) and by his grandchildren Nathan Shinn and Sarah Shinn.
During his lifetime, Norman served 37 years in the Air National Guard and received numerous awards and commendations. He worked as an airplane mechanic, and then in information technology for several companies including NASA Johnson Space Center. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol and in church, most recently attending Yorkminster Presbyterian. At 82, Norman returned to college and completed more than two years toward his degree.
Norman was an unwaveringly loving husband, son, father and grandfather, supporting his wife, parents, daughters, sons in law, and grandchildren in every way possible for his entire life. His kindness, wisdom, encouragement, and friendship toward his family, friends and community were felt by everyone he met throughout his lifetime. He was a wonderful role model. He will be missed, and his presence will be cherished forever.
The family will celebrate his life on his birthday with a military honor guard ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Riverside Health System Foundation. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Va.
