Nancy Mae Taylor Hopkins

Newport News, Va. – Nancy Mae Taylor Hopkins, born in 1937 passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia.
Nancy was a caring person who touched the lives of many. She was preceded in death by Paul, her beloved husband of 70 years, her parents, Louis and Dorothy Taylor, brothers Louis, Bobby, and Tommy, and sisters Jean and Sally.
She is survived by; her children Paul Hopkins, Jr. (Paula), Susan Henk (Edward), and Alan Hopkins (Melissa); and her cherished grandchildren Christy Phippins, Lindsey Snowden, Mary Balduf, and Josh Stone. Nancy leaves behind great-grandchildren Zoë, Skylee, Josie, Trevor, Sydney, Conner, and Brody. She was called Grandma and GG by many others. She is also survived by her brother Edward Taylor (Marilyn) and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy graduated from Newport News High School and earned an Associates degree from Thomas Nelson Community College. She retired from Williamsburg Community Hospital after many years of service. She was a charter member of Menchville Baptist Church where she continued to be an active member and loved being part of the choir.
She cherished family time. Family vacations, card games on the weekend, cookouts – it didn’t matter as long as family was together. Tradition was important. Treasured memories were built around Thanksgiving and Christmas. She always supported whatever activities her children and grandchildren participated in – even when she wasn’t thrilled that one of those activities was stock car racing.
Nancy was always taking care of others. She never put herself first. Her life was marked by a steadfast commitment to God, and family (and you didn’t have to be related to be family), Nancy’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May her legacy of faith and caring for others inspire others to do the same.
A visitation will be held at Menchville Baptist Church on January 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
Nancy and Paul danced… at square dances, Lion’s club shows and every wedding they attended. Now they are dancing together again.
