Mildred Beam Lawson


Mildred Beam Lawson (Millie), 96, passed away on March 17,2022. She was a Peninsula Resident since 1945 and lived in Dare for over 50 years. She was born November 14, 1925, in Fallston, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Homer M. Beam and Vernie Tillman Beam of Fallston, North Carolina. She graduated from Charlotte Commercial College, Charlotte, North Carolina in 1943. During World War II, she worked as a secretary at Morris Army Airfield, Charlotte, North Carolina and Langley Army Airfield, Hampton, Virginia. She also worked as a secretary for the Peninsula Boy Scout Office and Apex Building Contractors in Newport News, Virginia. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Dare, a member of the Miriam Gruber Circle and United Methodist Women’s Organization. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of72 Years, John A Lawson, Jr., 3 brothers, Robert E. Beam, D. C. Beam and Edward Beam all of North Carolina, and a grandson, Derek A. Lawson. She is survived by a brother, Franklin Beam (Mary), 2 sons, John A. Lawson III (Pat) of Williamsburg, VA. and Victor B. Lawson (Annie) of Hayes, VA., A daughter Rebecca (Becky) L. Beebe (Will) of Cedar City, UT. She was the beloved Grandmother of Kimberly L. Wilson, Thomas V. Lawson, Erik L. Lawson, V. Brian Lawson, Adam B. Lawson and Christopher Thornton. She was the beloved Great-Grandmother of John C. Wilson III, Matthew G. Wilson, Kirstie N. Lawson, Connor E. Lawson, J. Wyatt Lawson, Chase A. Lawson, Evan G. Lawson, Blake A. Lawson, Isabell B. Lawson, Derek A. Lawson, Abygail A. Lawson and Charlie D. Thornton. Visitation will be held at Amory’s Funeral Home on March 25, 2022, from 6-8 PM. Private burial will be held March 26, 2022, at 1 PM. A Memorial service will be held at Providence United Methodist Church, Dare March 26, 2022, at 2:30 PM.
