Luta Skittletharpe Smith passed away on July 29, 2026. She was 98 at the time of her passing. Lou or Nana, as her grandchildren call her, was born and raised in Bath, NC, September 20th, 1927, to Dewey and Josephine Skittletharpe. Lou is preceded in death by her husband William Eden Smith Jr., daughter Susan R. Cram, and son Ronald S. Smith. 
She is survived by her youngest son William E. Smith III (Bucky), and his wife Wendy, son-in-law Joel Cram, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. 
Lou worked as a legal secretary and volunteered for the Republican Party. She was an active member of the Warwick Yacht Club and the Woman’s Club of Newport News. Lou was passionate about her family. She loved her get-away home on the Albemarle Sound, where summers were spent with the family, fishing, crabbing, and occasional pig picking. She loved to share stories of her Grandfather Pappy; she was Pappy’s girl. Over the last years of Lou’s life, she often spoke of returning to Bath, NC and has returned to be with her family there and in heaven.
