LTC. Michael S. Lach (US Army Retired)
Retired United States Army, Lieutenant Colonel, Michael S Lach, at the age of 77 passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Hospice Mary immaculate hospital in Newport News , Virginia.
He was born in Seattle, Washington. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science from Troy State University, a Masters of Science, from Florida Institute of technology, he attended Parks College of aeronautical technology and was a commercial pilot and an A&P Mechanic.
Michael served in the army for 22 years, which included a tour in Vietnam in the early 1960s. Hunter Army airfield, Georgia, Fort, Rucker, Alabama, Fort, Eustis, Virginia, Korea, Schofield barracks in Hawaii, new Cumberland, Army, Depot, PA, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Saclant, Virginia, and then retiring from Fort Monroe, Virginia, in 1993. He had a second career as a government contractor with General Dynamics. After retiring from General Dynamics, He & his wife Lillian bought a Winnebago RV and joined a RV Club, The Tidewater Tasca’s, where wonderful memories were made traveling & camping.
Michael especially had a passion for his Family , world history, fishing, & golf. He had a way of making jokes , that made us all laugh & think twice because of his dry sense of humor.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Lillian, his two daughters, Melissa Petersen (Eric) and Allison Compton (David) . He was blessed with 7 grandchildren & 2 great grandkids.
His family has organized a memorial service to honor Michael’s life and military service, which will be held at the Amory Funeral Home , 410 Grafton Dr. in Yorktown VA 23692 on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM. There will be a celebration of life following the service at our daughter’s home.
