Lt. Col. James A. Trimble, US Army Retired


Lieutenant Colonel James A Trimble, US Army Retired, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024.
Jim was born March 31, 1935, to Robert S Trimble, a second-generation Irish immigrant and Mary Evelyn Moore, the daughter of a Western pioneer.
Raised on a cattle farm in Monrovia, MD, Jim graduated from Frederick High School in 1953. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania and rowed crew until he enlisted in the US Army in 1955. He served as Security at the Atomic Weapons Assembly in Albuquerque NM. Following his two-year commitment to the Army, Jim returned to the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1960. He was then commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant Infantry US Army.
Assignments in Korea and subsequently Fort Benning GA, Jump School led him to meet and marry Sylvia Pound, who preceded him in death. Together, they welcomed two magnificent sons, David and Jeffrey, who, along with his beloved daughters-in-law Leslie and Christa, gave him three grandchildren, Alexandra, Ryan and Gaston who, in his words, are smarter than he.
Assignments in his career led him to the Language School Monterey, CA. and then Special Forces at Fort Brag NC. Tours of duty followed in Bolivia and Vietnam as a Rifle Company Commander. Assignments also included Commander Jumpmaster School and as an Infantry Advisor In Madrid, Spain. There, Jim served as Staff Advisor to Spanish senior staff. Jim ran his first marathon in Madrid followed by a second from the town of Marathon to Athens, Greece.
Following duty as Deputy Post Commander at Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA and assignment to Fort Eustis, Jim retired, with his wife, in York County, VA.
During his career, Jim earned the following accommodations: Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, three Air Medals w/v for Valor, Purple Heart, Senior Parachutist, Viet Nam Decorations and a Jungle Warfare Badge (Panama).
There will be a Celebration of Life at 313 Hodges Cove Rd, in Grafton VA on April 14, 2024, at 1:00. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors at a later date.
