Laura Lee Roane Worst

It is with great sorrow that we announce that Laura Lee Roane Worst, 90, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Philip Worst. She is survived by her son Tim and wife Patty, her daughter Laurie Johansen and husband Chris, grandsons Philip Worst II, Nick and Ryan Johansen, and four great grandchildren.
Laura was born and raised in Hampton, Virginia. She graduated from Hampton High School, where she met the love of her life, Phil. They were married in 1954 and moved to York County where they built a home, raised a family and spent their life together.
Laura worked for the York County School System while her children were in school. She was a permanent substitute teacher. Once they graduated Laura went to work for Old Point National Bank enjoying a 25 year career and retiring as a Vice President. She and Phil had many adventures together. They loved to take road trips in their van visiting family and friends. Laura was very active in Lifelong Learning through Christopher Newport University participating in many of their programs and travel excursions. She also joined the Senior Center of York County and enjoyed a wide range of classes, activities, and fun trips. She made so many wonderful friends there who enriched her life.
She gravitated towards art classes at the Center and became a wonderful artist, achieving recognition in several art exhibitions and competitions within the local art community. Laura also became an activist for seniors in the York County community. She spearheaded an effort to petition the York County Board of Supervisors to provide funding for a van service to bring seniors, who are not able to drive, to the Senior Center so that all County seniors have the opportunity to participate in all the excellent programs, especially Body Renewal, which Laura said many times, contributed to her long term health. The family would like to thank the care professionals at Honor Home Instead, specifically, Rita, Natasha, Maya, and Caitlin, as well as Riverside Hospice Nurse Nikki for providing loving care and emotional support. These professionals went above and beyond to care for Laura and the family is forever grateful to them.
There will be a celebration of life on Sunday June 7th, from 1:00 – 4:00, at the Hampton Yacht Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Dream Catchers, her favorite charity. 10120 Fire Tower Road, Toano, VA 23168.
