Kimberly Scruggs Graham
Kimberly Scruggs Graham of Yorktown, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2025 with her family by her side.
Kim was born in Newport News on January 26, 1964 where she also met the love of her life and husband of 36 years, Gary. They were married on July 30th, 1988 and settled in Yorktown for the past 25 years.
Kim’s earliest passion in life was achieved when she earned her Architectural Technology degree from Thomas Nelson College and used her natural artistic talents for many years in various forms of drafting and design. She later turned to her true passion, working with and inspiring children, when she joined the York County School system as a Paraeducator. This is where Kim’s God given calling best served both her and others before she was diagnosed with cancer and had to step away.
Her journey for 21 years battling cancer is one that touched so many lives and was the ultimate inspiration of courage and faith to everyone she knew. Her devote commitment to the Lord and devotion to never fail him, inspired everyone she touched through this long journey. Kim never gave up, participating in multiple clinical trials which have made a documented impact on the fight against cancer. She always said she felt she was here in the world to help find a cure so her loved ones never had to go through what she did. Kim carried on with such courage, always thinking of others, and her bright spirit will continue to inspire hope in all those she touched.
Kim is survived by her family members, husband Gary, daughter Ashley, mother, Kathleen Scruggs, sister Debbie Tallon, brother Matt Scruggs (Hannah), mother-in-law Sylvia Graham and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces who only lovingly knew her as “Kimmie”. Kim was proceeded in death by her father Melvin Scruggs and brother-in-law Tom Tallon.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 1st at 9:30a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown, VA followed by a private family burial.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering or your favorite charity. A page has been created (http://mskcc.convio.net/goto/honoringkimgraham) on the MSK website in her honor to keep fighting for a cure for cancer, as Kim would wish.
