Katya Elizabeth Pase Moreno
Katya Elizabeth Pase Moreno 29 passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on 9 November. She was a devoted wife and mother devoted to family and baby boys. Katya was born in Kostroma, Russia and spent her early childhood years there. She and her brother Andrew became US Citizens in June of 2006. Kat attended Coventry Elementary and she was a graduate of from Grafton High School in 2013. While in high school, she was a member of the chorus and the competition cheer team all 4 years and she was a graduate of the York School of the Arts where she studied dance. Katya graduated with an AA degree from Potomac State College of West Virginia University in 2015 where she also participated in lacrosse. She received her BS in Dental Hygiene from WVU in 2019. While attending WVU she was the vice-president of WVU Student Dental Hygienists Association (SADHA), she served as a teacher’s assistant and tutor in the WVU science department and received recognition for many hours of community service.
Katya is survived by her husband, Juan Rey Moreno and two sons, Luka Rey age 2 and Israel Elias, age 10 months all of Yorktown. In addition, she is survived by her parents, Robert and Deborah Pase of Yorktown. Her surviving siblings include Rob and Angie Pase of Parsons, WV; Danya and Matt Pollard of Ventura, CA and Corporal Andrew Pase stationed at New River MCAS in Jacksonville, NC. Her parents in-laws were Juan Manuel Moreno and Beatriz Leyva Solano and sister in-law Heidi Moreno of Appleton WI. Her adoring nieces and nephews include Sutton and Linden Pase of Parsons, WV; Jackson and Emilia Pollard of Ventura, CA, Alora Pase of Charlotte, NC and Yvanni Padilla of Appleton WI.
Katya loved big family get togethers and she always appointed herself as the activities cruise director. She was a tremendous woman of faith and did not let her battle with cancer disrupt her relationship with God. Katya was a member of Grafton Baptist Church in Yorktown, VA where she participated in the Praise Team.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Grafton Baptist Church (5440 George Washington Highway) in Yorktown, VA at 1200 on Saturday, 18 November. She has requested that no one wear black as this is to be a celebration. There will be a reception immediately after the service. Additionally, there will be a grave side service held at 1pm on 24 November at the Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons, WV and a Celebration of Life held for her there at noon on Saturday, 25 November at the First Baptist Church Parsons, WV.
