Judith Petera Dabney


Judith Petera Dabney of Yorktown, Virginia died on November 9, 2024.
She was born on January 9, 1945 in Richmond, Virginia, to the late George and Helen Petera. She graduated Hermitage High School in 1963, and still has many treasured friendships from her days there, including her friends from Chamberlayne Farms and Heights (Chamberlayne Girls-CG’s). Judy attended Madison College and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia (VCU) in 1967, in Medical Technology (which became instrumental in her life). She retired in 2010 as Supervisor of the laboratory at the Peninsula Health Center (Newport News Health Department).
Judy married William Warren Dabney in 1967, in the middle of hurricane Dora, where wedding pictures had to be taken indoors, with all of the guest watching, because of the wind and rain, Judy lived a remarkable life and enjoyed many lovely sunsets at her home (the 1840’s Waterview House) overlooking the York River. In addition to medical technology, Judy enjoyed sailing, gardening, and the practice of Tai Chi. She also volunteered at the Yorktown Historical Museum and Yorktown Meals on Wheels.
Judy is Survived by her husband, William Warren Dabney. Mr. Dabney wishes to extend his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who supported Judy during her struggle with Parkinson’s disease and finally with pneumonia.
Family and friends will be received at Amory Funeral Home (410 Grafton Drive, Yorktown, VA) on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00. Funeral services will be held at Walnut Grove Baptist Church (7046 Cold Harbor Road, Mechanicsville, VA) on Thursday November 14, 2024 at 2:00.
Flowers are welcomed; however, in lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s honor can be made to the organization that means the most to you.
Arrangements are being handled by Amory Funeral Home, Yorktown.
