John Thomas Barclay


John Thomas Barclay, 85, died March 27, 2025, in Williamsburg.
Tom was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula.
He was the son of Robert McIntosh Barclay, of the original Barclay and Sons Jewelers, and George Ann Nettles Barclay.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Olivia Lee Belvin Barclay; brothers Charles, Robert and Bruce; and sisters Betsy Massie, Mary Foster, Myrtle Pence and Nancy Parker.
He is survived by Olivia’s sisters Carolyn B. Hunt and Debbie B. Campbell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from the NASA Langley Apprentice School in 1963 after which he served in the U.S. Army for two years stationed mostly in Germany. After the army, he returned to NASA where he worked until he retired in 1995.
Tom was a devoted husband, kind brother-in-law, and proud uncle. He lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility and purpose. He was deeply respected and a force for good.
A graveside burial will be at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News on April 14, 2025, at 11 AM.
