John Ellis Holston, Sr.


John Ellis Holston, Sr (79) went to be with the Lord and his many loved ones on Friday, June 23, 2023.
He was a lifelong resident of York County and graduated from York High School in 1962. He worked in Electrical Design at the Newport News Shipyard for many years; left and worked at several Marine Design firms in the area. He returned to the Newport News Shipyard and retired from there as a Senior Marine Designer in 2006. He served six years in the United States Army Reserves and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was an avid sports fan and diehard competitor. He loved playing and coaching baseball and softball for many years. He also loved bowling. He enjoyed working part-time in several grocery stores for many years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Grandparents Ellis and Ruby (Grumps) Holston, his Mother Ruth Broughman, stepfather Tom Broughman and his son John Holston, Jr. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Patricia Guzik Holston, his sister Emily Brown, daughters Lynn Shematek (Rob) and Lisa Stevens (Joe), daughter-in-law Karen Holston, grandchildren Audrey Shematek, Katie Vogler (Robbie) and Joey Shematek.
The family will receive family and friends at Amory Funeral Home on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. A funeral service will be celebrated at Amory Funeral Home at 11:00am on Friday, June 30, 2023, by Deacon Dan Johnson. Burial will be in the Ballentine Cemetery at Zion Methodist Church in Seaford, VA. After the burial, a reception will be held at the Seaford Women’s Club. Amory Funeral Home is in charge.
