Jimmia Lee (Jimmie) Harr

Jimmia Lee (Jimmie) Harr of Newport News, passed peacefully on Sept 1, 2026 at home. Her daughter and great grandson were with her.
Jimmie was born Oct. 17, 1935 in Flagpond, TN. At the age of 3 she was put into the care of The Methodist Children’s Home in Richmond, VA. She opted to stay until the age of 18. Her experiences at the Children’s Home are something she was very fond of and reminisced about often through the years.
Jimmie spent most of her adult life in Newport News and considered it home. She retired from Civil Service in March of 1995. In retirement, she enjoyed Bingo and helping care for her young Grandson, Josh Harr. In 2015, she moved in with her daughter where she lived until her death.
Jimmie had a kind heart and often helped those in need. Whether it was a meal for a stranger or a winter jacket for a homeless person in winter. She held no judgements and was always freely giving to someone in need.
Over the past 6 years, she had joined her daughter in transporting shelter animals. Getting up at 6am on a weekend to be on the road by 7am. She truly enjoyed the ride and meeting all the wonderful people and of course, loving on the dogs. She never missed a trip.
Jimmie is survived by her daughter, Theresa Harr; her great grandson, Dylan Harr and her great granddaughter, Charlotte (Letty) Harr and many dear friends and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Verna Wright; her husband, CWO4 Robert Harr; her son, Woodrow Harr; her grandson, Joshua Harr; her sister, Mildred Crump; her brother, Loren Shelton, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
