James Robert “Bob” Dinkins

Yorktown, Va. – James Robert (Bob) Dinkins, 90, of Yorktown, Virginia, passed away on January 2, 2026.
A lifelong and devoted member of Providence United Methodist Church, Bob was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, served his country in the United States Army and retired after a long and distinguished career at NASA. For the past year, Bob resided at Harper’s Station Assisted Living; the family is grateful to the staff for their kindness.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Nancy Dinkins; his son, Michael Dinkins (Gwen); and his daughter Patti Grella (Carmine). He is also survived by his grandchildren Rachel Knight (Matthew), Natalie Lawson (Scott), Lilly Grella (Kenneth), and Alyssa Grella; and his great grandchildren, Leo Knight and River Lawson.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church in Yorktown, Virginia with visitation following in the church fellowship hall.
He will be remembered for his faith, devotion to his family, and a life well lived.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Providence United Methodist Church in Bob’s memory.
