James Lewis “Jay” Hudgins
James Lewis Hudgins (Jay) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Jay was born on June 15, 1947 and was a lifelong resident of York County.He graduated from York High School in 1966 and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for 47 years. Jay retired from the shipyard in December 2012 after a 46-year career. For much of his time there, he worked as a foreman in the X32 Sheetmetal Carrier Division and later transitioned to the planning department. He loved the outdoors and especially hunting and fishing which he enjoyed with his friends and family but especially cherished with his son, Scott. He never met a stranger and with his knack for starting conversations, he easily made new friends wherever he went. Jay was the youngest of 12 children. He loved his family, both his immediate and extended. He held them close, always making time to visit and call.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Roselyn Tabb Hudgins, his brothers, Charles, William, Herbert, and Conway Hudgins, his sisters Anne Emerson, Betty Tinker, and MaryEllen.
Jay leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories for his wife of 55 years Brenda Metcalf Hudgins and children, Christy (Scott) and Scott (Amy). Brother Edward Hudgins and sisters Linda Barkley, Brenda Welch, and Judy Roundy. His grandchildren Stephen, Shelby, Drew, and Ella, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, VA with Pastor Doug Echols officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1004 Yorktown Road, Yorktown, VA 23693. Arrangements are by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, VA
