

James Alvin (Jim) Kellum Jr.

Seaford, VA – James Alvin (Jim) Kellum Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025. Born on March 18, 1940, he was the beloved son of James Alvin Kellum Sr. and Grace Rebecca Parker. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Delma Jane Magnus Kellum. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family. He was a devoted father to three daughters: Kimberly Kellum Jobson (Rick), Sherry Kellum LaBorne (Mark), and Janice Kellum Seale (Scott). He was a proud grandfather to Jaret and Bryce Jobson, Emily and Megan LaBorne, and Jordan and Jacob Seale. Jim was enthusiastic about following his grandchildren and their sports and activities. He was a proud graduate of Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia, and completed his training as a machinist at The Apprentice School Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in 1964. His career spanned several decades and included dedicated service at NNS, Bendix Automotive, Ball Bottling Company, Siemens Automotive, and retired from Continental Manufacturing. While at Siemens he received a US Patent for improvement of electronically operated fuel injectors. He was known for his strong work ethic, technical skill, and quiet leadership. Jim was a longtime member of Elks Lodge 315 and Moose Lodge 1711 in Newport News, where he found fellowship and camaraderie. He also gave generously of his time as a youth league coach, mentoring young athletes in both baseball and football. Coming from a proud family of watermen, Jim had a deep appreciation for the James River and its tributaries. He especially enjoyed sharing great seafood with family and friends filled with laughter, storytelling, and love.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his quiet strength, and the kindness he extended to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his loved ones and the lives he touched. A Celebration of Life will be held at Amory Funeral home from 1pm-2pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
