Helena Uunila St. Dennis


Helena Uunila St. Dennis, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 in Gloucester, Virginia.
Helena was born in Himanka, Finland and immigrated to Astoria, Oregon with her family shortly after World War II. She attended the University of Oregon, where she studied philosophy, psychology, and sociology. She lived in California before moving to the Washington, D.C. area, where she spent most of her adult life before moving to Port Haywood, Virginia in 2003. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed being outside in nature.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dean Clarke St. Dennis; her son, Paavo St. Dennis; and her sister, Eva Burn. She is survived by her daughter, Erika St. Dennis; her son-in-law, Preston Sparrer; her sister Laila Monahan; sister Edith Taylor; sister Kirsti Uunila and wife Rebecca Morehouse; niece Jillian Andrews and family; nephew Simon Burn and family; cousin Lisa Heideman and her son Andrew; cousin Briita Ehlers and her husband Don; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends in the U.S., Canada, and Finland.
Special thanks to the Special Procedures staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital; the staff at Riverside Sanders Rehabilitation Center; the staff at Riverside Sanders Heron Cove 2; the nurses at Riverside Hospice; and special caregivers Paula Cullison and Heather Tolbert.
