Grace Elizabeth Keeter King


Grace Elizabeth Keeter King, 93, a Newport News native, passed away peacefully at home of Alzheimer’s disease on August 11, 2021. Grace was the daughter of Benjamin James Keeter and Elizabeth Ross of Greenville, NC.
Grace and Haden, members of the “Greatest Generation” and the love of each other’s life, were married for almost 70 years. She was a multi-talented “Great Woman”, behind a “Great Man”.
Surviving are Betty Anne King, daughter and caregiver, son M. H. King, Jr., Carolyn, Mandy and Meredith, and son, Stephen B. King, Kim, Virginia, Bartley, and M.H. III.
“Amazing Grace” outlived her husband, parents, and deceased siblings of the Keeter dynasty, J.W., Hazel, Curtis, Ben Jr., Nell, and Geraldine. Surviving are Ray, Selma, and Wanda.
Grace and Haden were longtime devout and generous members of First Baptist Church and active in all aspects of church life.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, August 20, at the Main Mausoleum in Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, Va. 23606.
Thanks to M. Parker, Grace’s caregiver for 7 years. She imagined herself as a “foster granddaughter”.
Heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice for their amazing compassion and comfort for 3 years. Because of their kindness and care, the grief journey has been filled with grace, safety, and resilience. Weekly visits from Angela, Head CNA, were always fun and special.
