Grace Deaver Kessler


Yorktown, VA – Grace Deaver Kessler, 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at home surrounded by family. She was born December 24, 1935 to James Roy and Martha Pearl Chandler Deaver in Asheville, NC . The family moved to Newport News, VA in 1948. She later moved to Yorktown and was a resident there for 57 years.
Mrs. Kessler leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 65 years, Bobby Allen Kessler, four children, Michael A. Kessler (Amy) of Mount Pleasant, TX, Linda Kessler Van Dyke (John) of Seaford, VA , Susan Kessler Cherry of Yorktown, VA, and James G. Kessler (Angie) of Clermont, FL; six grandchildren, Scott Alan Coughlin, Jr. of Yorktown, VA , Hannah Kessler Sosnowski (Spencer) of Rockwall, TX, Christina Kessler Dale (Gilbert) of Rowlett, TX; Madison Grace Van Dyke of Seaford, VA, April Lee Cherry of Yorktown, VA and Zachary Lee Kessler of Clermont, FL; sisters, Betty J. Abbott of Charlottesville, VA and Eva D. Hinds of Newport News, VA; three sisters-in-law, Faye Appleton of Greenville, SC, Evadeen Kesler of Barboursville, WV and Janet Kessler of Poquoson, VA; an uncle, Donald Chandler (Marietta) of Weaverville, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, James Roy Deaver and Martha Pearl Chandler Deaver, two nephews, Christopher Hinds and Dale Kesler and brothers-in-law, Meredith Appleton, Gordon Kesler and Shirley (Blinky) Kessler.
Mrs. Kessler worked at Ft. Eustis for several years before deciding to be a homemaker and raise her four children. She was a member of Grafton Baptist Church since 1967.
Mrs. Kessler married the love of her life, Bobby, on March 2, 1957. Together they loved raising their four children in a wonderful Christian home. She was extremely talented in sewing, knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch. She was an avid reader and loved word searches. She enjoyed camping with her family over the years. Next to Bobby, her children and her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she loved spending time with them.
Visitation will be Monday, February 6, 2023, from 6-7 p.m. in AMory Funeral Home. The funeral will be Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in Amory Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, VA.
