George Calvin Jenkins, Jr.

George Calvin Jenkins Jr. passed away peacefully on December 25th, 2023.
He was born in Newport News to George Sr. and Violet Jenkins and was a resident of Gloucester County, VA since 1985. He worked for the Newport News Shipyard for many years, as well as being a volunteer York County and Newport News firefighter, where he once won an award from the Governor for having saved a child’s life, among other achievements. In addition, George was an active member of the food ministry at Living Waters Church. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Joanne, and three brothers, David, James, and Joseph. He leaves behind his son Calvin Jenkins (and daughter-in-law and caretaker Jolene), his daughter Lorie Shifflette, brother Robert Jenkins, four sisters Sandra Phillips, Barbara Rousey, Violet Vorhees, and Mary Ann , grandchildren Hunter Rew, Taylor Jenkins, Tabatha Shiflett, Amy Shifflette, Bobby Lee Jenkins, and great grandchildren Bentley, Paisley, Kinsley, Mason, Aiden, and Jayden. A funeral service for George will be held at Amory Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. on December 29th with a graveside service at Parklawn Memorial Park at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made out to an Alzheimer’s disease charity of your choosing.
