Frank Grayson Kelly, III


Surrounded by his family, Frank Grayson Kelly III went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2023.
Frank was born on Nov 6, 1941, in Oklahoma City, OK to Beulah Mae Kelly and Captain Frank G Kelly, Jr. While his father was stationed in Japan, Frank moved with his mother to Concord, NC to be closer to family. When he was 6 years old, the family moved to W. Lamington Road in Hampton, VA, where his father ran an auto service station. While in high school, Frank worked with his dad at the service station. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1960 and went to work first at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and then Newport News Shipbuilding as an apprentice. In 1968 he went to work at Advex Corporation in Hampton VA as a machinist. He retired from Advex in 2002 after 33 years of service.
In 1974, Frank married Cheryl “Cheri” Hopkins. They settled in Grafton, joined Grafton Christian Church, and raised 3 sons and a daughter. Over the years, Frank never missed a little league game, a football game or a soccer game for his kids or his grandkids. Frank has been very active in his church community and served as a committee chairman, a Deacon and an Elder. As a hobby, he enjoyed playing golf.
Frank is preceded in death by his father, Frank G Kelly Jr, his mother, Beulah Mae Kelly, his older brother William “Bill” Kelly, and his daughter-in-law Jennifer West Kelly. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheri Kelly, his sons Lon (Carol), David, Justin (Lynn) and daughter Trisha, eight amazing grandchildren, and his dog “Tina”.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday November 22, at Grafton Christian Church, 109 Brick Church Road, Yorktown VA. A reception will immediately follow the service in the GCC Fellowship Hall. Arrangements are being handled by Amory Funeral Home.
