Forrest Joseph Gary

Hampton, Va. – Forrest Joseph Gary, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
Forrest was a native and lifelong peninsula resident. He graduated from Newport News High School and served in U.S. Marine Corp. He was a former employee of Newport Shipbuilding and served with the Newport News Fire Department along with his late father Captain Harry A. Gary.
He served as a Sergeant with the Williamsburg Sheriff Department and later worked with Newport News Sheriff Department. Forrest also was the former owner of G&G Auto Sales in Hampton and owned his own collection agency as well as in his later years working with his son as a general contractor.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Peggy Sue Gary and his parents, Captain Harry and Adelaide Gary; brothers Jerry, Roscoe and Harry Gary Jr., and sisters Adelaide Raymond and Mary Ellen VanZant. He is survived by his son Lee Gary and his wife Donna of Hampton; granddaughters, Madelyn Drew (Christopher) Stephany Plantz (Nathan) and Donna Elizabeth Lawrence and great grandchildren, Emma Faith Drew and River Ray Plantz. Siblings Harryette Thomas, Charles Gary (Jackie). Warren Gary (Beverly), Carolyn Gary and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 10 AM on Friday March 12, 2021. For more information on dates and times go to amoryfuneralhome.com
