Eva Ramsey Brooks

Yorktown, Va. – Eva Ramsey Brooks, 88, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
Known, all her life, by family and friends as Bobbie, she was much loved. Her warmth and kindness to all will continue to live in our hearts.
Bobbie Ramsey was born in Roanoke, a native of Rocky Mount, Virginia. After her graduation from William & Mary in 1958, she taught in elementary school and lived in Richmond. She married in 1962 and moved to Rochester, New York with her husband, Bill Brooks. She taught there too, and later in Carrboro, North Carolina. Bobbie and Bill moved back to Virginia in 1964, to the Peninsula, where she began her studies at W&M for a Masters degree in Education, while raising her young family.
She earned the M.Ed. in 1969 from W&M, after moving to Chapel Hill, NC for Bill’s Ph.D. studies. They moved to Fairfax, VA in 1975, and lived happily there for 20 years, while their son, Tom, and daughter, Sue, finished schools and started their careers.
In 1995, Bobbie and Bill moved back to the Peninsula, first to Seaford, then to Yorktown in 2008.
Bobbie’s last 16 years, in Yorktown, continued to be happy, despite a gradual decline due to dementia, first diagnosed in 2006. She stayed just as game and good-humored as always, with the warm smile that we all loved.
Her active life, with travel, tennis, skiing, cycling, and her love of music, served her well.
Her physical health remained good until the last, so that her enjoyment of life seemed little
changed.
She is survived by her husband, William Ward Brooks, son, Thomas Ward Brooks, daughter, Susan Ramsey Brooks, grandson Fletcher, and granddaughter Jia.
There will be a private, family memorial gathering to celebrate her life, at a later date.
