Dove M. Barton
Dove M Barton died Friday, May 3, 2024.
Her children surrounded her with love and peace before her passing. She will be sorely missed BY her three children, Heather Ward, Mary Barton and Richard L Barton III, her grandchildren Marcello, Serafino, Giovanni and Gema. She is also survived by her younger sister Katherine Finnigan.
Dove began life in West Palm Beach, Florida on January 25, 1941. She grew up loving the sun and beach with her grandmother and siblings. At Palm Beach High she excelled in debate and theatre, but especially enjoyed Saturday Night Dance parties. In early 1963 she met Richard “Dick” Barton of Illinois and they married in West Palm Beach on September 23, 1963.
Dick and Dove returned to Enid, Oklahoma for Dick to finish his college education. Dove supported her husband through college, the Vietnam War and as the spouse of a U.S. Marine Corps Officer. She moved the family many times and survived raising three kids, of which two were only nine months three weeks apart. She also endured two thirteen month unaccompanied tours while her husband served in Japan. Dove kept a tight ship and her children and husband toed the line with her love and support.
Dove shared her enjoyment of food, travel, books and theatre with her family. Her “can do” personality gave her plenty of opportunities IN business, family and social settings. When Dove and Dick settled in Yorktown, VA in 1988, she found paradise in the colonial Triangle, through kinship and support at Grace Episcopal Church in historic Yorktown. She joined the Yorktown Women’s Club and especially loved Yorktown Days. As her children left the nest for college she became a successful real estate agent. She enjoyed the church and visiting the Outer Banks.
As she slowed down this last decade her health began to deteriorate, but she stayed fiercely determined and never held back. Her children lovingly gave her support as her health declined further. Her husband preceded her in death as did two of her siblings and one grandchild.
Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Yorktown, VA on Friday May 10, 2024 at 10am. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, Virginia.
