Douglas Clift Simms


Douglas Clift Simms, 67, a resident of Yorktown, Virginia, (formerly of Atlanta, Ga.) passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026.He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his country, his career, and his beloved family.
Doug attended Berry College before proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he built a successful career at Ciba Vision (now Alcon), until his retirement.
Doug was a man of diverse interests who embraced life with enthusiasm. An Eagle Scout and a dedicated Scoutmaster, he deeply valued community leadership and mentoring youth. He was an avid fisherman and boater who loved spending time on the water. A sharp mind, Doug regularly played bridge at the local senior center and was a passionate reader who curated a personal library inside his home.
Above all, Doug was family-oriented and devoted to his loved ones. He cherished his friendships and was known for his warmth and community spirit. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his two sons, Shawn and Colin Simms; and his siblings, Renee Smithers, George Simms, and Emily Schoenberg. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Doug’s life will be held on July 21, 2026, 2:00 P.M. at Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown, Virginia (111 Church St. Yorktown), where Doug and Margaret are members. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a memorial donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
