Dawne was born in Port Leyden, New York, where she grew up and lived until meeting and marrying her husband Frank. Their work took them to Myrtle Beach S.C. and Phoenix Arizona until 1971 when they settled down on the Peninsula. She lived in Newport News until 2019 when she then moved to Williamsburg, Va. until 2024. While raising her four children, when they were young, she worked in the Newport News School system which offered her a convenient schedule and summers off! Then she was on to the retail world, working for many years at Sneakers Unlimited, where she enjoyed meeting new people. She most enjoyed working at “The Party Station” where her love for decorating blossomed! She loved decorating for all the holidays, birthdays, weddings and events. Her creativity and imagination showed no limits! She was also known for wrapping the most beautiful gifts, they took on their own art form that you hated to open! She also took great pride in decorating her Christmas tree. It would take her days to finish and was so beautiful. Many friends stopped every year to admire it and her angel collection. When she was able she enjoyed her flower gardens, planting colorful flowers every year. After moving she enjoyed her new country life, watching the birds come to her window bird feeder, she loved her grand-dog Annie who would lay at her feet protecting her, and her little black miniature horse Izzy, who was always looking for a carrot and a pet! They brought her many hours of happiness and comfort.

Dawne was a leader and mentor in a program she held very close to her heart. Sharing her life experiences with a message of acceptance, unconditional love, strength and hope to many over the years. Leading by example she leaves a legacy of Love and Hope behind touching the lives of many.
She was so many things to so many. She was a dedicated wife to her husband of 62 years, a loving daughter and sister, but first and foremost she was an amazing mother and grandmother, showering her children and grandchildren with unending love. She never missed a birthday or important event in their lives. She extended that role to many of their friends becoming their second mother. She will be missed by her many lifelong friends that she made over the years. Everyone will miss her loving personality, witty sense of humor, sweet smile and unconditional acceptance.

We are forever grateful for the loving care and special memories made by her caregivers Geny Banks, Sue Reynolds, Charity Pitts, Ethel Schoenborn-Pettine and Donna Hughes. She loved her “girls” and looked forward to spending time with them sharing many stories and laughs.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 pm in Amory Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 16, 2024. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held in Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers a donation in her memory can be made to Saint Judes Childrens Hospital, The Shriners or a charity of your choice.
