Colonel J.F. Molineaux Jr.

Colonel J. F. Molineaux Jr, United States Marine Corps (retired) and York High School teacher/coach, received his final orders from God on March 11, 2023.
Colonel Molineaux was born on November 14, 1936 in Boston Massachusetts to Joseph F. and Kathryn M. Molineaux. Colonel Molineaux is survived by his wife of 58 years Sandra, son Joe Molineaux III, son Michael and his wife Amanda, daughter Lisa and her husband Gary, his four grandchildren Riley, McKenzie, Ashton, and Bryce; brother Gerard, nephew Gerry, and niece Tracie.
Colonel Molineaux entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955 and was commissioned as a Marine Officer in June 1958, following receipt of his Bachelors in Business Administration from Boston College.
Assigned as an Assault Amphibian Vehicle (AAV) officer; Colonel Molineaux commanded AAV units from platoon through battalion level during peacetime. He also commanded an AAV company in combat in Viet Nam. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded 1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion in Okinawa, and 2nd Assault Amphibian Vehicle Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
As a senior AAV Officer, Colonel Molineaux was also heavily involved in the developement, testing, and program management of Marine Corps AAV equipment, both current and future.
During his career, Colonel Molineaux served as an Infantry Company.
Commander with 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines; an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Officer; a personnel/training analyst at Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps; and a Marine Officer Instructor at the University of Texas Navy ROTC Unit in Austin, Texas.
Colonel Molineaux’s last assignment prior to retirement from the Marine Corps in July 1985 was as the Marine Liason Officer to the Commander, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command in Ft. Eustis, Virginia.
Colonel Molineaux’s military awards include the Legion of Merit; the Meritorious Service Medal; Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V”; Navy Commendation Medal; Purple Heart Medal; and Combat Action Ribbon.
Following his military retirement, Colonel Molineaux decided to share his wealth of knowledge with the students at York High School. He taught and coached at York High School for 13 years and made a lifelong lasting impression on hundreds of students.
Upon his retirement from York High School, he spent most of his time supporting his grandchildren in their many ventures. He always put his family first and was a wealth of information. He loved his Family, his Country, and his Corps. He will be missed and will always be loved.
There will be a viewing held on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 6-7pm at Amory Funeral Home in Yorktown, Va. The service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Yorktown, Va. The military burial will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 12:30PM.
