Clyde Frederick “Freddie” Wilson, Jr.

September 20, 1949 – October 15, 2026
Clyde Frederick Wilson Jr., affectionately known as Fred or Freddie, passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born on September 20, 1949, in Newport News, Virginia, Freddie made his home in Hampton, Virginia. On March 3, 1979, Freddie married his beloved wife, Deana Gunn Wilson. For 47 years, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, adventure, and countless memories. Of all the things he accomplished, his love for Deana and the life they shared remained among his greatest blessings.
Freddie was the proud father of five children: Michele Rowland (Ike), Richard Wilson (Rebecca), Amy Simon (Ronald), Colgan Wilson (Marla), and Ashley Ide (Curtis). He was also a grandfather to Amber, Savannah, Austin, Ila, Paige, Elizabeth, Nellie Josephine, Cambridge, Cheyann, Jade, Issac, Isabella, and Calian, and a great-grandfather to Davina, Benjamin, and Silas.
He is also survived by his brothers, Keith and Dale Wilson, who shared a lifetime of brotherhood and memories with him.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Shirley Wilson; his brother, William Carl Wilson; and his grandson, Gabriel Simon.
Freddie spent more than 40 years as an auctioneer, a profession perfectly suited for a man who loved people and never passed up an opportunity for a good conversation. He was a dedicated member of the Virginia Auctioneers Association, serving as President, Treasurer, Board Member, and Chief of the Board. His contributions earned him numerous honors, including Auctioneer of the Year, induction into the Auctioneer Hall of Fame, and the J. Horney Award. Beyond his own accomplishments, Freddie took great pride in mentoring fellow auctioneers. His children never knew when a trip to the grocery store might turn into an impromptu auction, with Freddie selling off whatever happened to be nearby.
Freddie also spent more than 40 years in the tire business and was a longtime member of the Virginia Automotive Association. His career took him from factory floors to some more exciting destinations, including Cabo, Aruba, and Las Vegas.
Some of his happiest memories were made traveling out West with his family, spending time at their cabin in Harrisonburg, and sharing his love of horses with Deana.
In the days before his passing, Freddie reflected on the things that had brought him the greatest happiness. One of those joys was watching Deana return to her love of horses. Their horses, Katie, Darcy, Buster, and Rocky, brought so much happiness to their family, and Freddie found tremendous joy in seeing Deana doing something she loved. Of all the wonderful things he could have reflected on, he chose to talk about her happiness. That, perhaps more than anything, speaks to the love they shared.
For more than four decades, Freddie built a career around “Recycling Memories Since 1982.” Now, he leaves behind something even more valuable- a lifetime of stories, laughter, and moments for his family and friends to cherish and pass along for generations.
And after a lifetime of calling auctions, it seems only fitting that Freddie gets one final closing.
Sold! To a life well lived, a family deeply loved, and memories that will always be priceless.
