Chapman Jones Rodenhizer, Jr.
Newport News, Va. – Rodenhizer, Chapman Jones Jr. 93, of Newport News, VA passed away on Dec 6 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was preceded in death by his father Chapman J Rodenhizer Sr. and his mother Mary Pridgen Rodenhizer and best friend Rudy Luethy. He is survived by Shirley Ann Rodenhizer of Newport News and two sons, David Chapman Rodenhizer his wife Gayle and grandson Erik and Jeffrey Smith Rodenhizer and grandson Noah and granddaughter Amelia, and one daughter Tammy O’Hare of Raleigh NC. He is also survived by his sister Laura R Coleman of Richmond, VA. and three nieces Cindy Coleman of Powhatan, VA, Mary Ellen Powelson (Jay) and their two children Avery and Devin of Colonial Heights, VA and Tracy Wyman (Paul) and her two children, Coleman and Hannah of Moseley, VA.
Chap graduated from Blackstone High School in 1949 and attended Randolph Macon College, graduating in 1954. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1958, stationed in South Korea. After returning home he attended the Medical College of VA receiving his degree in Pharmacy in 1960. Chap worked as a pharmacist at various drug stores in the Newport News area retiring in 2009.
He leaves to cherish his memory sister-in-law Sarah Zieman of Grafton VA who cared for Chap for many years and also many other caregivers along the way who include Donya Green, Hudson Davis, Belinda Powell, Rachel Carney, Krystal Taylor, and several others who came to know and care for Chap as one of their family.
A service will be held at 11am Dec 18 at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, VA. Burial will be private in Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, Va
