Cathy S. Hogge

Cathy S. Hogge, age 75, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2025 after a long, brave battle with cancer.
Cathy was a lifelong resident of Dandy in Yorktown, VA. She was the daughter of the late Archie & Eddie Mae (Puddin) Shields. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Henry Hogge.
Cathy is survived by her loving daughter Amy Phaup (Ben), son Brad Hogge (Erin) and grandchildren Madelyn and Conor. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Brenda Hogge (Paul) and Darlene Williams (Scott), as well as her brother Stuart Shields (Shirlee). Additionally, she leaves to cherish her memory several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Cathy was a graduate of York High School who went on to have a 34 year career with the York County Schools as a bus driver. She loved being a bus driver and enjoyed meeting so many children and their families over the years. Her own children, nieces and nephews were frequent passengers! If you rode Cathy’s bus, you knew you were in good hands and arrived safely to each destination.
Cathy enjoyed playing the piano and blessed others with her talent as the pianist at Dandy Baptist Church for 12 years, serving both the children’s ministry and the weekly church services. In later years, Cathy was the Director of Meals on Wheels, coordinating deliveries of meals to those in need throughout the community. She had a heart of service and helping others. In her spare time she enjoyed time reading, tending to her flowers, and spending time with family.
Above all Cathy dearly loved the Lord. Throughout her long illness with cancer her faith never wavered and she never questioned the “journey” she was on with the Lord by her side. Her bravery and strength will be an everlasting testament to all her knew her.
Special thanks to Trinity Hospice, and especially Brandi Harbert for her excellent compassionate care.
